The UK Reunification Database

THE UK REUNIFICATION DATABASE USED BY PET-DETECT IS CALLED PETLOG

Petlog is the largest and most widely known and used UK reunification database and is owned and run by the UK Kennel Club. They have one 24/7 telephone number – 08444 633 999. All pet-detect® microchips are registered with Petlog.  We recommend using only the Petlog reunification database - there are others these days, but in our opinion Petlog is the one that everyone involved with stray animals recognises immediately - plus they offer a really good service and good value for money.  With Petlog your pet is registered for its lifetime - this is not the case with some of the other databases.   Petlog are also based right here in the UK and are non-commercial - some of the others are based overseas and all are owned by microchip / insurance companies.

When calling Petlog (08444 633 999), you must first select the category you are enquiring about (lost pet - found pet etc), and then you are quickly put through to a human being - thankfully not a frustrating call centre abroad. Petlog are based in Aylesbury by the way. They charge a small fee for the LIFE-LONG registration of your pet. This fee is part of the microchip price, so the microchip Distributor will pass payment onto Petlog once that chip has been implanted and registered. Everything revolves around the microchip number so make sure you have that to hand before you call Petlog.

As already mentioned, pet-detect® only work with Petlog, in addition, we also operate our own in-house 'back-tracking' system for those times when a microchip number has not been registered with Petlog, for whatever reason. This allows pet-detect® to track down the microchip number through the purchaser of the chips, and from their records, the owner of the pet.

It's also important to know that Petlog are part of EuroPetNet. EuroPetNet cleverly connect several European databases together - so even if your pet is lost whilst you're on holiday in France or Spain or another European country, you still have a very good chance of being reunited with it. This is all included in the Petlog one-off life-long registration fee. The other databases may not be a signatory to EuroPetNet and at least one database registers pets for only 9 years and as you know, most pets live way longer than that.  Another source of linking world-wide databases can be found at www.petmaxx.com and this is a FREE on-line microchip DATABASE LOCATOR - just type in the microchip number and it will show you the name and contact number of the database that particular microchip resides on. How cool is that!

If your pet has a chip that is registered on one of the other databases, you may want to consider contacting Petlog 08444 633 999 - to discuss whether you can register your pet's details with them.  There is a small fee associated with this, but Petlog will explain everything to you.

Remember, if you move address it is essential to let Petlog know.
