microchipping a horse

It is important to note that Passport Issuing organisations are instructed NOT to issue passports if the microchip was not placed by a veterinary surgeon.

This is an excellent video demonstrating the correct technique for microchipping a horse. The horse has been lightly sedated, other veterinary surgeons may use local anaesthetic at the site.

It has been a requirement for some time that horses born since 2009 must be microchipped, but this has now been rolled backwards. ALL HORSES in England MUST be identified with a microchip and a passport. there will be a fixed penalty notice for offenders.

All horses imported into the UK must be microchipped and registered by a UK PIO within 30 days.

Numbers can be checked through the Chip Checker www.equineregister.co.uk and you need to update the Central Equine Database with your horses details.
